Do you have chronic dry eye?
What is Chronic Dry Eye?
Chronic Dry Eye (keratoconjunctivitis sicca) also known as Dry Eye Syndrome is a medical condition that can result from the eyes’ reduced ability to produce tears due to inflammation. Recent studies show it affects more than 3.2 million Americans.
Research has shown that Chronic Dry Eye (keratoconjunctivitis sicca) can be the result of a functional problem in the tear-producing glands of the eyes. This not only reduces tear production, but creates an insufficient amount of tears to lubricate or nourish the eye.
It’s important to remember that while environmental factors can further aggravate Chronic Dry Eye, they are not the cause. One cause of Chronic Dry Eye can be the body's reduced ability to produce tears due to inflammation.
Contact Advanced Laser Vision if you think you may have Chronic Dry Eye, also known as dry eye syndrome. Dr. Lipsky can tell you whether you have a certain type of Chronic Dry Eye and whether Restasis® ophthalmic emulsion should be prescribed to help increase tear production. You should candidly discuss your condition and the extent to which lubricant eye drops or other non-prescription treatments help, or do not help.
You may have spoken to your eye doctor about Chronic Dry Eye due to reduced tear production in the past. But, since Restasis® was made available in 2003, you now have a new reason to bring up the topic again.
