For some patients whose prescription is too high even for LASIK to correct, the ICL may be an excellent option. This implantable lens to correct vision has been available internationally for nearly a decade with worldwide experience in tens of thousands of patients. The Visian ICL™ is designed as a flexible, foldable lens. Therefore the procedure allows for a tiny incision through which Dr. Lipsky slips the lens (50% smaller than competing technology.) The ICL is placed behind one’s iris, providing excellent quality of vision for many patients who cannot have LASIK. The Visian ICL™ is invisible to you and others and requires no maintenance. It is made from Collamer, a collagen copolymer. Collagen is the same naturally occurring substance present in the eye and in many other tissues of the human body. In one study, over 99% of patients in the clinical trial were satisfied with their new vision after the ICL procedure. Collamer is very compatible with the eye’s natural environment and the lens contains an ultraviolet filter that provides protection to the eye.

Visian ICL™ surgery done on NBC's Today Show.   NBC Today Show Link - Day of surgery NBC Today Show Link - 3 days after surgery The Visian ICL™ Candidate Good candidates for the Visian ICL™ include patients who: • Are between the ages of 21 and 45. • Are nearsighted with or without astigmatism or farsighted, including those with mild, moderate, and severe myopia (as low as -3D to as high as -20D prescription) with minor or no occurrence of astigmatism. The Visian Toric ICL™, capable of correcting myopia with astigmatism, is currently under review with the U.S. FDA. The Visian TICL™ is currently available only outside of the United States. • Have sufficient anterior chamber depth and acceptable endothelial cell density (this will be determined after a comprehensive eye exam). • Have not had a change in their eyeglass prescription of more than 0.5D in a year. • Are not currently pregnant. • Have no other contraindications including no known allergies to medications used during refractive surgery. • Have dry eyes, severe myopia, or a thin cornea (non-LASIK candidate).
